Rent Freeze
Join the Fight for a Rent Freeze
Tenants make up 70% of New York City and we are the backbone of this city – the cooks, nurses, teachers, and bus drivers who keep New York running. But rising rents are forcing us out of the city we love. While landlord profits are surging, tenants are struggling with severe rent burden and homelessness and displacement are on the rise. Tenants are the majority in New York, and we have the power to elect a mayor who will freeze the rent, invest in safe, affordable housing, and house the homeless. Tenants work hard to keep New York running – and we deserve to stay!
The Rent Guidelines Board is a body of nine members all appointed by the mayor that sets rent adjustments for the approximately one million rent stabilized apartments in New York City each year. Tenants & Neighbors also works with the Rent Justice Coalition to push the Rent Guidelines Board to freeze the rent, and each year we organize tenants to testify and plan actions at the hearings.
You can help us win a rent freeze by getting your neighbors to sign the petition, volunteering to canvass, or coming to an action. Fill out this form, or contact us at 212-608-4320 or questions@tandn.org and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can!
